As any major honors show draws close, there’s always a demand for the addition of new categories to recognize underappreciated efforts and fill the hearts of fans with niche passions.
My colleague has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.
Present Award Structure
The major gaming awards presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.
Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, intense tile-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.
- An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
- Another imaginative release received no nominations in 2019
- A beloved organization game was overlooked that year
- Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles in the world continuing this trend for over a decade.
The famous puzzle experience rivals popular creative games claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it also contends for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, while interacting with almost every other genre.
Proposal and Rationale
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.
To emphasize again, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers function at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay decades.
