World Series Game 7 Draws 51 Million Viewers In the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting 11-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run drew a total 51M spectators in the US, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB stated this is the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable game secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game since the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a 16% increase over the last Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

Global Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – recorded 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match World Series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete American viewership was 16.1 million. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and Fox’s best postseason performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen different languages.
